I Know a Bald Eagle...

Can you believe we have been back at school for a whole month already?! Here's what your first graders (and bald eagle experts) had to say about the fourth week of school:

We wrote stories about something disappointing. -Deniz

We read Bear Has a Story to Tell. -Kyara

We used the chromebooks to listen to books. -Alex

We made a song about skunks. -Jade

We made another class book called Stuck. -Nya

We figured out that Chewbacca from Star Wars is a mammal. We know that because he has fur. -Damion

We read two books about bald eagles. -Anahi

We learned what oviparous means. We learned that bald eagles don't have sharp teeth to tear apart their food, but they do have sharp talons and a sharp beak. -Tanaya

We read Hello, Fredbird because Miss Kloczko likes the Cardinals. When I was in TK, Miss Kloczko liked the Giants. -Juan Carlos

We learned the word carnivore. -Aaqil

We did the E page in our America book. E is for eagle. We learned that skunk babies are called kits. -Anshika

We made the C page in our America book. C is for constitution. -Parker

We crumpled up the constitution to make it look old. -Isandro

We learned that the bald eagle only eats meat.  -Carol

Our third grade buddies came to read with us. I remember that when skunks spray it is called musk. -Ryan

We learned that the sum is the answer to an addition problem. -Jared

We learned that the bald eagle's wingspan can be up to 8 feet. -Cooper

The bald eagle is a symbol for the United States of America. -Kendall

A symbol is something that stands for something else. -Jules

We learned that the bald eagle has brown and white feathers. -Allyson

We are in the computer lab for the first time right now! -Indigo

The bald eagle's claws are called talons. -Lea

Baby bald eagles are called eaglets. -Tianna

We read Not a Box. -Liam

This week I received two bald eagles (one, a picture printed out from vacation and the other, drawn and labeled at home). Also, on more than one morning before school, I was presented with "a cone from a coniferous tree!" AND we met our stamina goal on Tuesday! We read for 20 minutes straight! (And we only stopped because we had to go to lunch!) -Miss Kloczko

Stuck!

On Thursday, we read Stuck, by Oliver Jeffers, which inspired us to write some "Stuck" stories of our own.

It all started when I threw my Wii up in a tree. Then I threw up all my Wii games and they got stuck! Then I threw up my friend's Wii U. Then I threw up his Gamepad and all his Wii U games. Then I threw a lion up. Then I threw the Seahawks and they all got stuck! Then I threw a king cobra. Then I said “That’s it!” I got my baseball bat and a baseball and whack! Everything came tumbling down!

It all started when my present got stuck. Next I threw my toy up. Next I threw up Noah T. Then I threw Milo up. Finally I threw up my birthday cake and then everything came down! Except for my birthday cake!

It all started with someone named Thomas who got his glider stuck. Thomas threw this bike to get this glider. Then he threw this TV to get this bike. He tried this fence to get this TV but all of that got stuck. He threw my mom’s car and dad’s car to get this fence but they got stuck too…

My toy truck got stuck up on a roof. I threw my books but they got stuck too. I threw my mom’s phone but that got stuck too. I threw my dog and my things came down.

One day I played with my cats. We played with her toy mouse. Then it got stuck in a tree. I threw my favorite ball. It got stuck. I threw my phone and it fell down.

It all began when my brother got stuck up on a tree. And then I threw my other brother up in the tree. And then I threw my mom and then it all fell down. But not my mom. My brothers came down. And then I found a beautiful diamond and then I threw it up and then the diamond and my mom fell down.

First I was playing with a stuffed animal. Then it got stuck in a tree. I threw a knife and that got stuck too! I picked up a house and that got stuck too. I threw up a gorilla. That got stuck too. Finally I threw up two houses and it all crashed down.

It all started when my TV got stuck in a tree. So I threw my friends. They got stuck too. So I threw a house in the tree. You can guess what happened. It got stuck too! I threw Miss Kloczko. OK she got stuck too. So I threw a phone. Finally I threw a volcano and everything came down.

One day my pencil got stuck in a tree. I tossed a panda and it got stuck. Next I tossed an eraser and it got stuck too. And two leaves fell down. I tossed Noah T. and it all fell down. I am going to throw my pencil up again.

It all began when my toy Elsa got stuck up in a tree. I threw my pet up the tree. Next I threw my teacher, Miss Kloczko, up the tree and then I threw a peacock’s feather and it all fell down. The end. Ta-da! And they lived happily ever after.
