Glow Girls by Annie 

On Wednesdays after school, I dance as a glow girl. It is one of my favorite things to do. Glow Girls is a poetry ballet class. It is fun! It is at school and my friend, Angela, is in it too. I wear a black leotard with red leg warmers and black ballet shoes. My ballet bag has all my ballet clothes in it. One of the poems I recite is "Rubies, diamonds, cultured pearl, none more precious, than a girl. Girl, girl, girl, celebrate. Self respect is really great!"

Student Blogger: Tony

Tony and his classmates got to experience what blubber feels like and how it keeps whales warm in cold temperatures!

Blue whales have two blowholes.
Blue whales have baleen to help them eat krill and plankton.
Blue whales weigh 400,000 pounds.
Orcas are black and white. They only have one blowhole.
They are called the wolf of the sea because they hunt in pods.
They eat seals. They have a dorsal fin.

I like blue whales the best because they are my favorite color.

Student Blogger: Peyton- Music

Here is a little about me that I wanted to share.  I really like country music.  My favorite singers are Luke Bryan, Jake Owen, Jason Aldean, and Zac Brown Band.  I like country because I like the beat, voices, and words.  My favorite time to listen to country is in the car and at home.  I like to wear my pink cowgirl hat.  At Halloween I dressed up as a cowgirl.  Someday I would love to have a horse of my own to ride and take care of.

Student Blogger: Peyton- Whales

Hello, my name is Peyton.  I am in Miss Kloczko's first grade class.  We are learning about Blue and Orca whales.  Whales have blubber to keep warm from the cold water in the oceans.  

Blue whales can weigh up to 150 tons and are 80 feet long.  This means they are bigger than a bus!  They have two blowholes on their back and when they blow water it stinks so bad!  They also have a dorsal fin.  Blue whales have baleen that is black in color.  They eat krill and plankton.  

Orca whales are 23 feet long and weigh up to 12,000 pounds.  Orca whales have their eyes under the white spots on their head.  Orca whales have teeth, not baleen.  Whales are known to spyhop.  Spyhopping is when a whale pokes its head out of the water to see what is going on.  I would like to know if Orca whales eat Blue whales.  I wonder this because Orca whales have teeth.  Some day I hope to see a whale at Sea World.  

Learning about whales is so much fun!

Whales have teeth and baleen. The orca whale has teeth. The blue whale has baleen. The orca whale has a big white spot that is not an eye. The blue whale eats krill and plankton. The blue whale is the biggest whale on Earth. Did you know that the orca whale can do tricks? Did you know that the blue whale is a mammal? The blue whale can float in the water. The orca whale is a carnivore. The blue whale is a baby born alive.

Colin and his first grade friends got to feel how blubber keeps whales warm in cold temperatures!

First, I learned that whales migrate when it’s too cold in Antarctica even though they have blubber. They move to a warm place so they won’t get too cold.
Then, I learned that blue whales weigh about 150 tons! Blue whales are my favorite whales because they swallow almost everything.
Next, I learned Orca whales can weigh 12,000 pounds!  The orca whale in the book “Sea Life” said “I am an orca whale.  Some people call me killer whale.”
Finally, I learned whales eat fish and seals.  Leopard seals eat penguins! Penguins eat fish, squid and eels.

Hello, my name is Angela.
I am a new student, and I love Star Academy. The things that I like the best are art and the writers workshop. Today, I would like to talk about STAMINA days.
The kids and I get to write about anything we want. Sometimes I write a story about a super hero pup, and sometimes I write about my favorite music. I also try to write parts of songs that I know. I like STAMINA because I feel like I get to work forever and I will never stop. When Miss Kloczko puts the timer on, we start to write, and Miss Kloczko does too. I think she writes about us, or she might write about her life. Sometimes, I don't finish my work, but I don't feel bad because Miss Kloczko lets us go back to our old work and finish it the next STAMINA day. I get to write things that I forgot and new things too. I like STAMINA because it is quiet and independent work time. I think that it will help me to be a better writer, and it will make me smarter.
